Job Description/Specification:
A major gas distribution operation in Qatar is seeking an experienced Gas Distribution Operations Supervisor to oversee the transmission and distribution of natural gas through Central Master Control Stations (CMCS), pipeline networks, metering systems, and associated facilities.
The position carries significant operational responsibility, ensuring that gas is supplied safely, efficiently, and continuously to industrial and commercial consumers. The successful candidate will supervise control station activities, monitor pipeline performance, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure that operational faults are addressed quickly to minimise service interruptions.
This is a senior supervisory opportunity for professionals with substantial experience in the hydrocarbon processing industry, particularly those familiar with gas transmission, pipeline operations, and industrial distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities
The Gas Distribution Operations Supervisor will oversee daily gas transmission and distribution activities across control stations and associated pipeline infrastructure.
Main responsibilities include:
-
Supervise gas transmission and distribution through Central Master Control Stations (CMCS).
-
Monitor Pipeline Management Systems (PMS) and metering systems at CMCS and TDOC facilities.
-
Oversee the operation of manifolds, let-down stations, and associated distribution infrastructure.
-
Ensure that control stations and pipeline facilities operate efficiently and that operational faults are reported promptly.
-
Coordinate gas distribution through stations and connected pipelines to ensure reliable supply to local customers.
-
Supervise the maintenance of SCADA and Pipeline Management Systems.
-
Ensure technical faults affecting pipeline and station monitoring are attended to quickly to minimise outages.
-
Monitor gas distribution performance and ensure available resources are used effectively.
-
Maintain continuity of supply to industrial consumers and other downstream facilities.
-
Develop and implement safe working practices across operational areas.
-
Ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures, operating regulations, and industry requirements.
-
Coordinate with relevant operational and maintenance teams to maintain reliable distribution services.
Operational Responsibility and Business Impact
This position involves high-level operational decision-making because interruptions to gas distribution can have serious financial and industrial consequences.
Incorrect operational decisions may result in the shutdown of individual consumers, potentially causing losses worth millions per day. A wider interruption to the gas distribution network could also affect power generation and multiple downstream industrial operations.
The role therefore requires strong technical judgement, effective coordination, and the ability to make timely decisions while maintaining safety and operational reliability.
The distribution network supports major industrial and energy-sector consumers, including QAPCO, QAFCO, QAFAC, QatarEnergy Refinery, QASCO, QEWC, QCHEM, Qatargas, RasGas, QGEWC, Al Khaleej, RGPC, MPCL, and Dolphin.
Required Experience and Skills
Candidates must have at least 10 years of experience in the hydrocarbon processing industry, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory position.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
-
Strong team leadership and motivational skills.
-
Experience supervising operational teams in the hydrocarbon or gas distribution industry.
-
Good interpersonal and communication abilities.
-
Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
-
A forward-thinking approach to operational challenges.
-
The ability to coordinate multiple activities while maintaining continuity of supply.
-
A strong understanding of workplace safety and operational compliance.
Experience with SCADA, pipeline monitoring, metering systems, and gas control station operations is particularly relevant to the responsibilities of this position.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering.
A relevant engineering background combined with extensive hydrocarbon industry experience will be important for managing the technical and operational responsibilities of the role.
Career Opportunity in Qatar's Gas Industry
Gas distribution is a critical part of Qatar's energy infrastructure, supporting power generation, petrochemical production, refining, and other major industrial activities.
This supervisory position offers an opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the safe and reliable operation of an essential gas distribution network. Candidates with strong leadership experience, technical knowledge, and a proven background in hydrocarbon processing may find this role particularly suitable.
