QatarEnergy Energy & Utilities To be discussed

Job Description/Specification:

QatarEnergy is seeking an experienced project management professional to provide independent project assurance, performance analysis, and risk assessment across projects within PEPS. The role focuses on evaluating whether projects are positioned to meet their approved business commitments, budgets, schedules, and delivery objectives.

The successful candidate will provide objective assessments of project performance, identify potential challenges, and recommend practical solutions to improve project outcomes. This includes conducting project analysis, reviews, audits, and contractor market intelligence to support informed decision-making and protect project value.

The position also involves promoting project management best practices across PEPS by developing professional communities that encourage knowledge sharing, stronger project controls, and consistent delivery standards.

This opportunity is suited to senior engineering and project management professionals with extensive experience leading multidisciplinary projects, particularly within the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

Independent Project Assessment and Performance Analysis

The role requires an objective evaluation of project performance and the likelihood of achieving approved commitments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing project progress against sanctioned cost, schedule, and delivery commitments.

  • Providing independent analysis of project performance, deliverables, and objectives.

  • Identifying project challenges, risks, and potential delivery constraints.

  • Evaluating whether projects remain aligned with their approved business objectives.

  • Providing management with confidence-based assessments of project delivery prospects.

  • Reviewing project performance in line with QatarEnergy's business objectives and value creation criteria.

Risk Identification and Improvement Recommendations

The successful candidate will identify issues that could affect project execution and recommend appropriate actions.

Responsibilities include analysing project risks, evaluating the causes of performance gaps, and proposing measures to overcome challenges. Recommendations should support the achievement of project objectives while improving delivery confidence, cost control, and schedule performance.

Project Reviews, Audits, and Contractor Intelligence

The position involves conducting structured project assurance activities across PEPS projects.

These activities include project analysis, independent reviews, project audits, and contractor market intelligence. The objective is to provide an informed view of project health, execution capability, and potential risks that could affect successful delivery.

Project Management Best Practices

Another important responsibility is developing communities of best practice across PEPS. This involves encouraging knowledge sharing, strengthening project management capabilities, and promoting consistent approaches to project planning, execution, reviews, and performance management.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in engineering, project management, and execution of multidisciplinary projects.

  • At least 10 years of experience in project management leadership positions, preferably as a Project Manager.

  • Proven project management track record in the oil and gas industry.

  • Experience developing project execution strategies and project management processes.

  • Knowledge of HSEQ requirements and project review practices.

  • Experience supporting projects in the oil and gas and infrastructure sectors.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from a recognised university.

  • A higher academic qualification would be advantageous.

  • Membership in a recognised professional engineering or project management association or institution would also be an advantage.
