Job Description/Specification:

SAIC is seeking a technically skilled Field Service Engineer (FSE) to support its Medusa Sustainment project, which provides maintenance and technical support for counter-small unmanned aircraft systems (C-sUAS) used by the United States Air Force.

The position may be based in Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Qatar, or Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will provide field engineering support at customer sites, maintain and troubleshoot deployed systems, install hardware and software upgrades, and ensure operational readiness.

This role is suited to candidates with experience in field service engineering, tactical networks, computer systems, and technical troubleshooting. Applicants must hold an active Secret security clearance and Security+ certification.

About the Medusa System

The Medusa System of Systems is a U.S. Air Force solution designed to defend against small unmanned aerial systems (s-UAS). It uses a Government-owned Medusa Command and Control (C2) platform that supports the integration of passive and active sensors, electronic and kinetic weapon systems, and various data-fusion and threat-identification algorithms.

The system supports fixed-base, portable, mounted, and handheld operations. The Medusa team provides sustainment support to U.S. Air Force counter-sUAS programmes worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

The Field Service Engineer will provide engineering and technical services to maintain and sustain deployed counter-sUAS systems, equipment, and software.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary engineering representative at customer locations.

  • Installing, integrating, and optimising hardware, software, and multi-vendor systems.

  • Maintaining existing system configurations, including hardware, software, and networks.

  • Managing software maintenance releases and hardware upgrade installations.

  • Diagnosing and resolving system performance issues during installation and operation.

  • Identifying product improvement opportunities and implementing approved upgrades.

  • Providing customer support and feedback regarding technical problems and product performance.

  • Preparing technical reports and presentations about company products and services.

  • Conducting on-the-job training for field service technicians and supporting junior technical personnel.

  • Installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting program software, integrated radios, and hardware components.

  • Performing fault isolation and repairs to the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) level within authorised maintenance limits.

  • Preparing systems for operation, loading system software, training operators, and completing operational checks.

  • Coordinating the return of non-mission-capable equipment to higher-level maintenance facilities through the Return Material Authorization (RMA) process.

  • Providing technical support to Air Force personnel on-site and by telephone.

  • Supporting the programme service desk and conducting scheduled equipment inventories.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience, or six or more years of experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Active Secret-level security clearance.

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.

  • Experience with tactical networks and network troubleshooting.

  • Experience providing field operator training.

  • Knowledge of computer system and network troubleshooting.

  • Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively in high-pressure environments.

  • Ability to work independently and meet short-term deadlines.

Desired Technical Skills

The following experience and technical knowledge are preferred:

  • Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Computer hardware, switches, routers, IP addressing, network topologies, and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Basic operational knowledge of VMware ESXi and VMware Infrastructure.

  • Basic Linux operational skills.

  • Operation and maintenance of radar systems.

  • Operation and maintenance of Electronic Warfare (EW) systems.

  • Operation and maintenance of electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) camera systems.
