Job Description/Specification:

Marriott International is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support the engineering and maintenance operations of an Autograph Collection hotel. The role focuses on responding to guest maintenance requests, carrying out preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, and keeping hotel facilities in safe and working condition.

The successful candidate will handle a variety of maintenance tasks across guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, mechanical rooms, and external spaces. This position is suited to someone with practical maintenance skills, a service-oriented attitude, and the ability to work effectively with hotel guests and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

The General Maintenance Technician will be responsible for:

• Responding promptly to guest repair requests and communicating professionally to resolve maintenance concerns.

• Performing preventive maintenance on tools, kitchen equipment, mechanical room equipment, and other hotel assets.

• Inspecting tools, machinery, and equipment to identify maintenance requirements.

• Carrying out basic repairs involving air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, carpentry, and building controls.

• Replacing light bulbs and air-conditioning filters, painting surfaces, and completing minor drywall and wood trim repairs.

• Troubleshooting common guestroom equipment, electrical components, lamps, switches, outlets, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, and plumbing fixtures.

• Programming televisions and supporting general engineering inventory and housekeeping-related duties.

• Maintaining maintenance supplies and requesting replacement parts when required.

• Identifying and operating equipment shut-off valves and building utility shut-offs.

• Supporting interior and exterior landscaping repairs, including sprinkler maintenance.

• Updating air handler schedules and making temperature adjustments using basic computer systems.

• Following Lockout/Tagout procedures before carrying out maintenance work.

• Communicating daily activities, outstanding tasks, and maintenance issues to other shifts through approved communication channels.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should meet the following preferred and required qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Some experience in general maintenance, painting, and interior or exterior surface preparation.

• Previous experience in hotel engineering or maintenance is an advantage.

• Basic knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and carpentry.

• Ability to troubleshoot and complete routine maintenance and repair tasks.

• Basic computer skills and the ability to enter work-related information.

• Valid driver's licence.

Previous supervisory experience is not required.

Safety and Guest Service Expectations

The role requires strict compliance with company safety, security, and operational procedures. The technician must report hazards, accidents, injuries, and maintenance problems, complete required safety training, and store flammable materials correctly.

Professional appearance, confidentiality, and responsible handling of company property are also expected. Since the position involves direct interaction with hotel guests, the employee should be welcoming, attentive, and capable of responding politely to guest needs.

The job also requires physical activity, including lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, using stairs and ladders, and performing tasks that involve bending, reaching, and standing.
