Job Description/Specification:
A senior gas distribution operations professional is required to supervise the transmission and distribution of gas through Central Master Control Stations (CMCS), associated pipelines, and distribution facilities. The role focuses on maintaining safe and reliable gas supply, monitoring control and metering systems, coordinating station operations, and ensuring that faults are reported and addressed promptly.
The position carries significant operational responsibility because interruptions to gas distribution can affect major industrial consumers, power generation facilities, and downstream operations. The successful candidate must combine strong technical knowledge of the hydrocarbon processing industry with supervisory experience, sound decision-making, and the ability to lead teams in a safety-critical environment.
Candidates with experience in gas transmission, distribution systems, pipeline operations, and control station supervision may find this opportunity relevant to their background.
Primary Responsibilities
Gas Transmission and Distribution
The Gas Distribution Operations Supervisor will oversee the movement and distribution of gas through Central Master Control Stations, pipelines, manifold stations, and let-down stations. The role involves ensuring that these facilities operate efficiently and that local customers receive an adequate and continuous gas supply.
The supervisor must coordinate distribution activities across stations and associated pipeline networks while making effective use of available resources.
Control Systems and Operational Monitoring
A key responsibility is monitoring the Pipeline Management System (PMS), metering systems, and relevant control station operations at CMCS and TDOC.
The role also involves supervising the maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and the Pipeline Management System. Any faults affecting these systems must be reported and attended to promptly to minimise pipeline outages and interruptions to station monitoring.
Candidates should understand the importance of reliable monitoring systems in maintaining safe and uninterrupted gas distribution.
Fault Reporting and Service Continuity
The supervisor must ensure that operational faults are identified, communicated, and addressed without unnecessary delay. Decisions concerning station performance, pipeline monitoring, and gas distribution can have significant consequences for industrial operations and energy supply.
The role requires forward thinking, effective problem-solving, and the ability to make appropriate operational decisions under pressure.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Developing and directing safe working practices is a core part of the position. The successful candidate must ensure that operational activities comply with applicable regulations and established safety requirements.
Because gas distribution supports major industrial and power generation operations, the supervisor must maintain a strong focus on operational reliability, risk awareness, and safe working procedures.
Team Supervision and Coordination
The role requires leadership across gas distribution operations, including coordinating staff and supporting efficient execution of operational activities. The supervisor is expected to motivate the team, communicate clearly, resolve problems, and help maintain consistent operational standards.
Strong interpersonal skills are important when coordinating with technical personnel and other teams responsible for pipeline and station operations.
Required Experience and Skills
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
-
Industry experience: At least 10 years of experience in the hydrocarbon processing industry.
-
Supervisory experience: A minimum of three years in a supervisory position.
-
Leadership: Ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate operational teams.
-
Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to respond effectively to operational issues.
-
Interpersonal skills: Excellent ability to communicate and work with different teams.
-
Forward planning: Ability to anticipate operational challenges and support continuity of gas distribution.
-
Technical background: Relevant experience in gas distribution, pipelines, control stations, or associated systems would align with the responsibilities described.
Educational Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science degree is required, preferably in Chemical Engineering.
Candidates should highlight their relevant engineering education, hydrocarbon industry experience, supervisory responsibilities, and exposure to gas transmission or distribution operations in their CV.
Operational Importance of the Role
The position supports gas supply to a network of major industrial and energy-sector consumers. The supplied job description identifies organisations including QAPCO, QAFCO, QAFAC, QatarEnergy Refinery, QASCO, QEWC, QCHEM, QATARGAS, RASGAS, QGEWC, Al Khaleej, RGPC, MPCL, and Dolphin.
An interruption to gas distribution can result in substantial revenue losses and affect downstream industrial activities and power station supplies. This makes operational judgement, system reliability, and adherence to safety procedures especially important.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is suited to experienced hydrocarbon industry professionals who have progressed into supervisory roles and understand the operational demands of gas transmission and distribution.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in maintaining continuity of supply, monitoring pipeline and control systems, coordinating station operations, addressing faults, and enforcing safe working practices. A strong combination of technical expertise, leadership, and sound operational decision-making is particularly relevant to this position.
