CCR Engineer - BOP (Balance of Plant)

Company: Qatar Electricity & Water Co. (QEWC)

Location: Doha, Qatar (In-person)

Job Type: Full-time

Industry: Power Generation, Water Treatment, & Utilities Infrastructure

About Qatar Electricity & Water Co. (QEWC)

Established in 1990, Qatar Electricity & Water Co. (QEWC) is the premier power generation and water desalination company in the State of Qatar. As a cornerstone of the nation’s vital infrastructure, QEWC owns and operates a major portfolio of independent water and power projects (IWPPs), supplying reliable, high-capacity electricity and potable water to support Qatar's rapid industrial, commercial, and residential growth. We are committed to technological excellence, stringent environmental stewardship, and the highest standards of public health and safety.

Role Overview

QEWC is seeking a skilled and vigilant Central Control Room (CCR) Engineer - BOP to join our state-of-the-art facility operations team in Doha. In this pivotal role, you will be stationed in the central control room, taking charge of monitoring, regulating, and troubleshooting Balance of Plant (BOP) and water treatment systems.

The ideal candidate will combine a strong technical background in engineering with a sharp analytical mindset to oversee water filtration, disinfection, and chemical dosing processes. You will work closely with plant engineers, field operators, water quality specialists, and maintenance crews to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient delivery of potable water while adhering to strict regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities & Core Duties

  • Process Monitoring & Control: Continuously monitor the real-time operation and performance of water treatment and Balance of Plant processes—including water filtration, chemical dosing, and disinfection units—via SCADA and control room interfaces.

  • Operational Optimization: Adjust critical operational parameters such as flow rates, chemical dosages, pressure levels, and treatment cycles to optimize water quality, reduce resource waste, and maximize overall plant efficiency.

  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Promptly identify and diagnose operational anomalies, equipment malfunctions, or process deviations, executing corrective actions to prevent water supply interruptions.

  • Emergency Response & Contingency Management: Respond swiftly and effectively to plant emergencies, equipment failures, contamination incidents, or supply disruptions by deploying contingency protocols and coordinating with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Data Analysis & Performance Tracking: Analyze operational telemetry, water quality metrics, and historical performance trends to evaluate system health, forecast maintenance needs, and implement process improvements.

  • Compliance & Safety Assurance: Ensure that all potable water treatment and distribution operations strictly comply with local environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and rigorous quality control protocols.

  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with shift engineers, maintenance teams, water quality specialists, and regulatory bodies to coordinate daily workflows, share status reports, and maintain uninterrupted plant output.

Requirements & Candidate Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a recognized Diploma in a directly related technical field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 6 years of hands-on operational experience within power plants, water treatment facilities, desalination plants, or heavy industrial process environments (GCC utilities experience is a strong advantage).

  • Technical Competencies:

    • Proven experience working within a Central Control Room (CCR) environment utilizing SCADA, DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and PLC interfaces.

    • Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, water chemistry, filtration systems, and balance-of-plant auxiliary equipment.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving capabilities under pressure, high situational awareness, strong attention to detail, and clear communication skills in English (Arabic language proficiency is highly valued).

  • Availability: Candidates currently residing in Qatar with local availability and transferable status are preferred for immediate mobilization.

Who Can Apply?

This career opportunity is open to qualified engineering professionals who match the following criteria:

  • Residency: Candidates currently located in Qatar with a valid Qatar ID and transferable visa status.

  • Industry Background: Engineers or senior diploma holders with specialized experience in power generation auxiliary systems (BOP) or municipal/industrial water treatment operations.

  • Shift Readiness: Professionals comfortable working within structured shift rosters required for 24/7 central control room environments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Is shift work required for this CCR Engineer position?

A: Yes. Because water treatment and power generation facilities operate around the clock, control room (CCR) positions typically follow a rotating shift schedule to ensure continuous monitoring and safety.

Q2: What core software or systems will I be using on a daily basis?

A: You will primarily utilize Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks, and enterprise data management software to monitor plant telemetry.

Q3: Is prior utility experience in Qatar mandatory?

A: While experience within Qatar's electricity and water sector (or GCC utilities) is highly advantageous due to familiarity with local regulatory standards, qualified candidates with solid international water treatment or power plant backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Q4: How will my application be processed?

A: Once you submit your CV through our platform, the recruitment team will screen your qualifications against the technical requirements. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to proceed with technical interviews.
