A leading financial institution in Qatar is seeking an experienced Head of Asset Recovery to lead and transform its recovery and collections function. This senior leadership role is responsible for managing the bank's end-to-end recovery strategy, minimizing credit losses, and maximizing recoveries across retail and corporate portfolios.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping recovery policies, strengthening governance frameworks, and driving effective resolutions for non-performing and distressed assets while ensuring alignment with the bank's risk appetite and business objectives.

Job Overview

As Head of Asset Recovery, you will oversee all recovery activities from early-stage arrears through legal enforcement, ensuring efficient management of problem accounts and non-performing loans (NPLs). You will provide strategic direction, lead recovery teams, manage external partners, and deliver portfolio insights to executive leadership and key decision-making committees.

Key Responsibilities

Recovery Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement the bank's asset recovery strategy, policies, and operational frameworks.
  • Establish annual recovery plans aligned with business and risk management objectives.
  • Ensure recovery operations comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and audit standards.
  • Continuously enhance recovery processes and controls to improve performance and efficiency.

Portfolio Management

  • Oversee recovery activities across retail, SME, and corporate portfolios.
  • Monitor overdue accounts, non-performing loans, recovery rates, and portfolio losses.
  • Identify early warning signs of portfolio deterioration and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive effective management of distressed and high-risk accounts.

Problem Asset Resolution

  • Assess and recommend optimal recovery solutions, including:
    • Loan restructuring and rescheduling
    • Negotiated settlements
    • Write-offs
    • Legal recovery actions and enforcement
  • Lead strategies for large and complex problem exposures.
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of non-performing assets.

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Develop and manage recovery KPIs, targets, and performance dashboards.
  • Implement early-warning indicators and case-management controls.
  • Prepare recovery forecasts, portfolio analysis, and performance reports.
  • Present recommendations and portfolio updates to senior management and credit committees.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Appoint, manage, and evaluate external partners, including:
    • Collection agencies
    • Law firms
    • Valuation firms
    • Asset disposal and recovery specialists
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across Risk, Legal, Finance, and Business units.
  • Ensure coordinated decision-making for complex recovery cases.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing recovery team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and results delivery.
  • Enhance team capabilities through training and professional development initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across the function.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Finance
    • Banking
    • Economics
    • Business Administration
    • Law
    • Or a related discipline

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in banking or financial services.
  • Extensive background in:
    • Asset Recovery
    • Collections
    • Special Assets Management
    • Remedial Management
    • Workout & Restructuring
  • Minimum 4 years of leadership or team management experience.
  • Proven track record managing large, complex distressed and non-performing exposures.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Non-Performing Loan (NPL) Management
    • Debt Restructuring & Recovery
    • Credit Risk Management
    • Enforcement & Litigation Processes
    • Provisioning & Regulatory Requirements
  • Excellent financial analysis and credit assessment capabilities.
  • Experience implementing recovery strategies and performance frameworks.
