Job Description/Specification:

voco Doha Central is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to support the hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations. The role combines hands-on technical knowledge with team leadership, ensuring hotel facilities, equipment, and building systems remain safe, reliable, and in excellent condition.

This opportunity is particularly suited to an engineering professional with hotel or hospitality maintenance experience who can coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, safety compliance, and engineering team performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily engineering operations and ensure maintenance requests are completed on time.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance activities across hotel facilities and equipment.
  • Lead, train, and support the engineering team to deliver reliable maintenance services.
  • Monitor the condition and performance of hotel facilities, equipment, and building systems.
  • Coordinate repairs, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance while minimizing disruption to hotel operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, fire safety requirements, and hotel engineering procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and service reports.
  • Support energy conservation initiatives and cost-effective maintenance practices.
  • Respond effectively to operational maintenance requirements in a fast-paced hotel environment.
  • Help maintain the overall condition and functionality of the property to support guest comfort and safety.

Requirements

  • Diploma or technical qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or a related engineering field.
  • Previous experience as an Engineering Supervisor or in a similar engineering position within a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry systems.
  • Strong understanding of hotel maintenance and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of engineering safety standards and procedures.
  • Leadership and team-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage and support a multicultural engineering team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Relevant technical certifications or licenses are an advantage.

Who Should Apply?

This position is well suited to hotel engineering professionals who have moved beyond purely technical work and are ready to take responsibility for daily maintenance operations and team performance.

Candidates should be comfortable coordinating multiple maintenance priorities while maintaining a strong focus on guest safety, operational continuity, and property condition.

Experience in a hotel environment is particularly relevant because engineering teams must respond not only to equipment and building issues but also to the operational demands of an active hospitality property.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

Strong technical knowledge across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry systems will help you diagnose problems and coordinate the right corrective actions.

Leadership is equally important. The Engineering Supervisor needs to train and support team members, communicate priorities clearly, and maintain service standards across different shifts.

Good organization and documentation skills will also help with preventive maintenance schedules, inspection records, maintenance requests, and service reports.

How to Stand Out

When preparing your CV, clearly demonstrate your hotel engineering experience rather than simply listing technical qualifications.

Highlight your experience supervising engineering teams, coordinating preventive maintenance, responding to breakdowns, managing contractors or service activities where applicable, and maintaining hotel facilities.

Examples of reducing equipment downtime, improving preventive maintenance, supporting energy-saving initiatives, or resolving recurring engineering problems can make your application stronger.

If you hold relevant technical licenses or certifications, make them clearly visible on your CV.

Interview Preparation

Expect practical questions about handling urgent maintenance issues in a hotel environment. You may be asked how you would respond if a critical building system failed during a busy period or how you would prioritize several maintenance requests simultaneously.

Be prepared to discuss preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, fire and life-safety requirements, energy conservation, and team supervision.

You may also face leadership scenarios involving a multicultural team, underperforming team members, shift coordination, or situations where maintenance work could affect guests.

A strong answer should demonstrate that you can balance technical problem-solving, guest safety, operational continuity, and team leadership.

Career Growth

An Engineering Supervisor role can provide valuable experience across hotel engineering, facilities management, preventive maintenance, energy management, and team leadership. With continued experience, professionals can progress toward broader engineering and facilities leadership positions within hospitality operations.

Working in a pre-opening hotel environment can also provide exposure to establishing maintenance routines and engineering procedures as the property develops its operational standards.
