Job Description/Specification:

A Civil Inspector is responsible for ensuring that construction activities meet approved specifications, drawings, quality requirements, and project standards. This opportunity is suited to a civil engineering professional with 3–5 years of inspection experience covering concrete, reinforcement, formwork, masonry, waterproofing, finishing, and other civil works.

The position is in-person and requires strong attention to construction quality, documentation, and site compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections for ongoing civil construction activities.
  • Inspect concrete works to verify compliance with approved requirements.
  • Check reinforcement installation before concrete placement.
  • Inspect formwork for conformity with approved specifications.
  • Monitor masonry works and identify construction deficiencies.
  • Inspect waterproofing activities and verify proper execution.
  • Review finishing works for quality and compliance.
  • Identify deviations from approved specifications during site inspections.
  • Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports.
  • Verify that completed works comply with approved project specifications.
  • Communicate identified issues and required corrective actions to the relevant site teams.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of experience in civil construction inspection.
  • Practical inspection experience covering concrete works.
  • Experience inspecting reinforcement and formwork.
  • Knowledge of masonry, waterproofing, finishing, and other civil activities.
  • Ability to conduct systematic site inspections.
  • Experience preparing inspection reports.
  • Ability to verify construction work against approved specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to construction quality.
  • Willingness to work in person at the project site.

Who Should Apply?

This role is suitable for Civil Engineering professionals who have developed hands-on site inspection experience and understand how construction activities should be checked against approved requirements.

Candidates should be comfortable working directly on construction sites, observing ongoing activities, documenting findings, and identifying work that does not meet the required specifications.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

A successful Civil Inspector needs strong observation skills and a practical understanding of construction methods. You should be able to distinguish acceptable workmanship from defects and clearly document inspection findings.

Report writing is also important because inspection records provide evidence of whether completed activities meet the required specifications. Good communication helps inspectors explain observations and coordinate effectively with construction teams.

How to Stand Out

When preparing your CV, clearly list the civil activities you have inspected rather than simply stating that you have “site inspection experience.”

Highlight specific experience with concrete, reinforcement, formwork, masonry, waterproofing, and finishing works. Also mention your experience preparing inspection reports and verifying work against approved specifications.

If you have worked on complex construction projects, handled recurring quality issues, or helped identify and resolve site deficiencies, include those achievements where relevant.

Interview Preparation

Expect practical questions about how you would inspect reinforcement before concrete pouring, what you would check when reviewing formwork, and how you would respond when completed work does not comply with approved specifications.

You may also be asked how you document inspection findings, communicate deficiencies to site teams, and ensure corrective actions are properly addressed.

Be prepared to explain your inspection approach clearly and demonstrate that you prioritize quality, accuracy, documentation, and compliance.

Career Growth

Civil inspection experience can provide a strong foundation for progression into broader construction quality and site management positions. With additional project exposure, professionals may develop toward roles involving quality control, QA/QC coordination, senior inspection, or wider construction supervision.
