Maintenance Supervisor

Job Description/Specification:

Qatar Fabrication Company (QFAB) is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead and supervise a technical team of maintenance foremen and technicians.

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely execution of maintenance work orders and job cards in accordance with the SAP PM maintenance plan, site requirements, QHSES standards, and established maintenance procedures.

The role requires strong technical and trade knowledge, hands-on troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage maintenance activities across fixed equipment, mobile plant, utilities, transportation, and lifting equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Site & Team Management

• Lead, supervise, mentor, and motivate maintenance foremen and technicians.

• Allocate and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure efficient execution of assigned work.

• Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance personnel.

• Promote teamwork, continuous improvement, safety, and operational discipline.

• Ensure maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Fixed Equipment, Mobile Plant & Utilities

Responsible for maintenance activities covering workshop and yard equipment, including but not limited to:

• CNC equipment and PLC-based machinery.

• Hydraulic equipment and pre-fabrication machinery.

• Welding, blasting, and painting equipment.

• Portable welding machines, grinders, chipping guns, torches, and welding ovens.

• Rollers and manipulators.

• Forklifts and MEWPs.

• Cleaning machines, air compressors, generators, and material-handling equipment.

• Equipment installed throughout workshop facilities.

• Mechanical utilities, utility lines, and related appliances across workshops and yard areas.

Transportation & Lifting Equipment

Oversee maintenance of transportation and lifting equipment, including:

• Electric overhead cranes.

• Portal and JIB cranes.

• All-terrain and rough-terrain mobile cranes.

• Crawler cranes.

• Shipyard transporters.

• Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs).

• Electric hoists and chain hoists.

• Hydraulic jacks and pedestal jacks.

• Load cells and other powered or geared lifting appliances.

Safety & QHSES

• Conduct Toolbox Talks (TBT) and work-preparation instructions for the workforce.

• Ensure compliance with QFAB's QHSES requirements.

• Facilitate Permit to Work (PTW) requirements.

• Ensure appropriate energy isolation procedures are followed.

• Implement HIT card requirements and other applicable safety measures.

• Promote safe working practices throughout all maintenance activities.

• Coordinate with the Maintenance Engineer when specialized technical assistance, precision tools, or special measuring equipment is required.

Maintenance Work Order Execution

• Supervise the timely and efficient execution of maintenance work orders and job cards assigned by the Engineer/Planner.

• Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with established procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.

• Ensure all manpower hours and resource utilization are accurately recorded in SAP PM work orders for review by the Maintenance Engineer.

• Identify required spare parts and external services and submit requests to the Maintenance Engineer for review and action.

• Prepare and submit work order completion reports detailing:

  • Findings

  • Corrective actions

  • Repairs completed

  • Outstanding or pending items

• Ensure compliance with the department's maintenance workflow and processes.

SAP PM Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to the SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) plan.

• Monitor maintenance scheduling, execution, and documentation.

• Track team performance against assigned work orders and maintenance deadlines.

• Ensure work order status, observations, labor hours, and completion information are accurately recorded.

• Conduct regular checks of SAP PM records to ensure data accuracy and completeness.

Equipment Breakdown & Troubleshooting

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdown notifications.

• Diagnose equipment failures using sound trade knowledge and technical expertise.

• Coordinate with maintenance personnel and relevant stakeholders to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, instrumentation, and related equipment issues within the scope of responsibility.

• Escalate complex technical issues and seek guidance from the Maintenance Engineer when required.

• Support efforts to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurring failures.

Production & Maintenance Coordination

• Maintain close communication with Production Supervisors regarding equipment malfunctions, observations, and maintenance requirements.

• Escalate relevant equipment issues and observations to the Maintenance Engineer.

• Coordinate with Production Supervisors to understand equipment availability and utilization requirements.

• Identify suitable maintenance windows based on production plans.

• Coordinate condition assessments and maintenance activities to minimize operational disruption.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a relevant technical discipline.

• Equivalent technical qualifications may be considered based on relevant experience.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 4 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience.

• Experience in maintenance operations within industrial, fabrication, manufacturing, shipyard, or similar environments is preferred.

• Strong hands-on knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Experience with SAP PM and maintenance work order systems.

• Knowledge of lifting, transportation, mobile plant, workshop, and utility equipment is an advantage.

• Strong understanding of workplace safety, PTW, energy isolation, and QHSES requirements.

• Good team leadership and communication skills.

• Ability to coordinate effectively with Production, Maintenance Engineering, Planning, and other operational teams.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
