Job Description/Specification:
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for providing daily process optimization and engineering support to monitor the performance of process and utility systems and equipment, ensuring production targets, operational efficiency, and product specifications are consistently achieved.
The role provides technical recommendations to Operations in response to process deviations, evaluates chemical performance, supports technology and process improvement initiatives, and contributes to projects from feasibility and concept development through FEED, EPIC, commissioning, and start-up.
The position also plays a key role in reviewing and developing technical projects, ensuring compliance with applicable QatarEnergy guidelines, VP procedures, Shell DEP requirements, and approved engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization & Operations Support

Provide daily process optimization support to monitor the performance of process and utility systems and equipment.

Analyze operating conditions and recommend appropriate actions to ensure production targets and product specifications are achieved.

Identify process deviations, bottlenecks, and operational limitations and provide practical recommendations to Operations.

Conduct adequacy checks of existing facilities to identify opportunities for optimization, reliability improvement, and enhanced operational integrity.

Apply process optimization best practices to improve facility performance, efficiency, reliability, and operational integrity.

Develop and evaluate solutions to address process constraints and system limitations.
Chemical Performance & Improvement
-
Assess and validate chemical performance through systematic evaluation and monitoring.

Identify opportunities to improve chemical performance and operational efficiency.

Coordinate with chemical suppliers to evaluate existing and new chemical solutions.
-
Support chemical trials and performance assessments where required.

Recommend new chemicals or treatment solutions to improve process, operational, maintenance, or HSE performance.
Technical MoC & Project Screening
-
Chair Panel Review Meetings for Technical Management of Change (MoC) proposals.
-
Evaluate proposed process improvement initiatives and conduct initial technical screening.

Classify proposals as:

Assess proposed initiatives based on technical requirements, operational benefits, feasibility, and project scope.

Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to progress approved improvement initiatives.
Project Development & PIN-SOR
-
Prepare Project Initiation Note – Statement of Requirements (PIN-SOR) documents for proposed projects.

Ensure SOR documents comprehensively capture asset-owner requirements and project objectives.

Verify compliance with applicable VP procedures, QatarEnergy guidelines, Shell Design Engineering Practice (DEP), and approved engineering standards.

Define technical requirements and ensure appropriate engineering inputs are incorporated during project development.
Technology & Feasibility Studies

Develop and evaluate technology options for feasibility and concept optimization studies.

Select appropriate process technologies to support business objectives and operational requirements.

Evaluate proven and emerging processes and technologies for potential improvements in:

Participate in external technical studies and provide process engineering inputs.

Review study deliverables and provide technical comments and recommendations.

Support field trials and technology implementation projects where required.
FEED & EPIC Engineering Support

Provide process engineering support for FEED and EPIC projects.

Prepare, review, and approve process engineering deliverables as required.

Heat & Material Balances (HMB)

Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

Process datasheets
-
Process descriptions
-
Line lists
-
Process and utility system documentation

Define and review operating and integrity envelope philosophies for process and utility systems.

Consider all relevant operating modes, including:

Ensure process engineering deliverables meet project requirements, applicable standards, and operational objectives.
Required Experience & Skills
-
10–12 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
-
Minimum 8 years of experience working as a Senior Process Engineer.
-
Proven experience in process optimization and operational performance improvement.
-
Experience in concept engineering and detailed design.
-
Experience with commissioning and start-up of Oil & Gas facilities.
-
Experience in feasibility studies and project engineering is an advantage.

Strong understanding of process and utility systems and their operational requirements.
-
Experience with FEED and EPIC projects and related process engineering deliverables.
-
Knowledge of technical change management, project screening, and process improvement initiatives.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical evaluation skills.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Ability to work effectively with Operations, Projects, Engineering, HSE, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Educational Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

Acceptable qualifications include B.Sc., B.Tech, or B.E.
