Job Description/Specification:


WSP is seeking an experienced Loss Prevention Site Engineer to support major 440 kV substation and transmission line infrastructure projects. The role will focus on implementing and monitoring loss prevention, fire protection, safety and risk management requirements throughout construction, testing and commissioning.

The successful candidate will ensure contractor activities comply with approved drawings, method statements, tender specifications, contractual requirements, statutory regulations, international standards and HSE policies. The position will help prevent injuries, property damage, environmental incidents and operational disruptions.

About This Role

The Loss Prevention Site Engineer will monitor contractor performance and oversee the installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of loss prevention systems. The role requires strong technical knowledge of fire protection and loss prevention systems, contractor management and NFPA standards, along with practical experience on major transmission and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor contractor activities and ensure compliance with tender specifications, contract conditions, approved procedures and method statements.
  • Supervise and monitor erection, testing and commissioning of loss prevention and fire protection systems.
  • Ensure installations are executed according to approved drawings, technical documents and project requirements.
  • Inspect and verify materials to ensure compliance with contract specifications and approved requirements.
  • Monitor installation and commissioning of:
    • Fire Detection & Alarm Systems
    • Deluge Water Spray, Sprinkler and Water Mist Systems
    • Clean Agent/FM200 Systems
    • Fire Extinguishing Systems
    • Transformer Explosion Prevention Systems
    • Fire Pumps and Controllers
    • Passive Fire Protection
    • Smoke Extraction Systems
    • Lightning and Emergency Lighting Systems
    • Security Management Systems and related interfaces
  • Coordinate and verify interfaces between loss prevention, HVAC, smoke extraction, security management and explosion prevention systems.
  • Monitor interfaces between loss prevention systems and substation control systems and NCC.
  • Review contractor procedures, method statements, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections and monitor quality, safety and commissioning activities.
  • Identify non-compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support project teams during testing, commissioning, handover and close-out activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and ensure loss prevention requirements are consistently maintained throughout project execution.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized university.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Loss Prevention Engineering.
  • Experience working on major transmission, power, water or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong background in the design, inspection, erection, testing and commissioning of loss prevention systems.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing preliminary studies, tender documents, contract procedures, technical specifications and bid evaluations.
  • Proven experience monitoring contractors and managing site-based loss prevention activities.

Professional Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of relevant NFPA Codes and Standards.
  • Must be a registered member of NFPA, USA.
  • Good understanding of international fire protection, loss prevention and safety standards.

Technical Skills

The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of fire protection and loss prevention systems used in high-voltage substations and transmission infrastructure. Experience with fire detection, deluge, sprinklers, water mist, FM200, fire pumps, transformer explosion prevention, passive fire protection, smoke extraction, lightning protection and emergency lighting is highly valuable.

Strong capability in contractor supervision, technical inspection, commissioning, document review, material verification and system interface coordination is required.
