Job Description/Specification:
We are seeking an experienced Switchgear Technician – 11 kV Electrical Systems to join our team in Qatar. The successful candidate will carry out maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and technical works on 11 kV switchgear and high-voltage electrical installations under the direction of the Safety Document Holder.
The role requires strict compliance with approved work procedures, KAHRAMAA safety rules, high-voltage electrical safety requirements, permit conditions, and company HSE standards. The technician will support preventive and corrective maintenance activities across electrical power equipment and distribution systems.
About This Role
The Switchgear Technician will work as part of a site electrical team, following instructions from the Safety Document Holder and ensuring all work is performed safely and correctly. The position requires hands-on experience with 11 kV switchgear and a good understanding of HV electrical installations and associated safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
11 kV Switchgear Maintenance
- Perform inspection, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of 11 kV switchgear.
- Carry out technical and maintenance activities as directed by the Safety Document Holder.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical power equipment.
- Identify, report, and assist with resolving electrical faults, defects, and abnormal equipment conditions.
- Follow approved technical procedures and manufacturer/project requirements.
High-Voltage Safety & Compliance
- Follow all applicable HV electrical safety procedures and KAHRAMAA requirements.
- Maintain safe working practices when working on or near high-voltage installations.
- Comply with permit-to-work requirements and site safety instructions.
- Follow instructions issued by the Safety Document Holder and authorized site personnel.
- Ensure all electrical work is performed in accordance with company HSE policies and applicable standards.
Site & Team Support
- Communicate effectively with the Safety Document Holder, supervisors, engineers, and site team.
- Maintain good housekeeping within the work area.
- Use electrical tools, test equipment, and PPE correctly and safely.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and safety concerns immediately.
- Work cooperatively with other technicians and electrical maintenance personnel.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Certificate or equivalent.
- Electrical Trade Certificate or relevant technical certification is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with an electrical power utility, electrical contractor, or similar organization.
- Hands-on experience maintaining 11 kV switchgear is required.
- Good understanding of high-voltage electrical installations and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with HV safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions from the Safety Document Holder.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work safely in a high-voltage electrical environment.

- Previous Qatar or GCC electrical utility experience is preferred.
