A Planner SPIR position is available in Qatar for an experienced planning professional with a strong background in petrochemical, petroleum refining, or power generation projects. The role is suited to candidates with extensive engineering-industry experience and specialized planning exposure across scaffolding, insulation, painting, refractory works, and turnaround/shutdown activities.

The successful candidate should be experienced in preparing detailed work plans, schedules, look-ahead plans, resource-loaded programs, progress reports, and forecasts using systems such as SAP-PM and Primavera P6.

Planner SPIR Job Overview

The Planner will support planning and scheduling activities for contractor works and coordinate closely with company planners and project stakeholders. The position requires a strong understanding of industrial maintenance and construction activities, process equipment, technical drawings, materials, manpower, tools, and equipment requirements.

A minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering-industry experience is required, including significant experience working as a Planner or Scheduler.

Required Experience

Candidates must have at least 8 years of experience in engineering work within one or more of the following industries:

  • Petrochemical.
  • Petroleum refining.
  • Power generation.

At least 4 years of this experience should be as a Planner or Scheduler covering:

  • Scaffolding.
  • Insulation.
  • Painting.
  • Refractory works.

The candidate should also have at least 2 years of experience in TSA (Turnaround/Shutdown Activities).

Experience preparing plans for small to medium shutdowns and turnarounds is particularly relevant to this position.

Educational Qualification

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, such as:

  • Civil Engineering.
  • Structural Engineering.
  • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Other relevant engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

The Planner SPIR will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed work programs and schedules for contractor activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare 14-day, 90-day, and 365-day look-ahead work plans at appropriate levels of detail.
  • Use the QSGTL SAP planning environment to develop work plans for contractor activities.
  • Coordinate planning activities with company planners and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed work packs and work plans for small to medium shutdowns.
  • Develop resource-loaded schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Monitor project progress and produce progress status reports.
  • Prepare forecasts and communicate progress to stakeholders and team members.
  • Identify required materials, manpower, tools, and equipment for larger work scopes.
  • Interpret lifting plans and incorporate lifting requirements into work plans.
  • Review technical drawings and translate engineering information into practical work plans.
  • Support planning for scaffolding, insulation, painting, refractory, and associated industrial activities.
  • Coordinate planning information across different work disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate planning and scheduling information throughout project execution.

Technical Knowledge and Drawing Skills

The successful candidate should have a good understanding of various process equipment and industrial plant activities.

The role requires the ability to read and understand:

  • Isometric drawings.
  • PEFS.
  • DEPs.
  • Scaffolding drawings.
  • Insulation drawings.
  • Painting drawings.
  • Small plant modification drawings.
  • Lifting plans.

Knowledge of scaffolding codes of practice and relevant British Standards is also required.

Software and Planning Skills

Strong computer and planning-system skills are essential for this position.

Candidates should have experience with:

  • Primavera P6 planning and scheduling software.
  • Resource loading and schedule development.
  • SAP-PM.
  • CMMS systems.
  • Microsoft Access Database.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • QSGTL SAP planning tools.

The ability to use these systems to produce progress reports, forecasts, schedules, and work plans is an important part of the role.

Communication and Additional Requirements

Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively, with an IELTS 6 equivalent level indicated in the requirements.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple work activities are important. The Planner should also be capable of identifying resource requirements and communicating planning information clearly to contractors, company planners, stakeholders, and project teams.

A valid Qatar driving licence and defensive driving training are preferred, particularly for candidates who may need to use company or project vehicles on a call-off basis.
