Senior Quantity Surveyor Job Overview
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing commercial and quantity surveying activities throughout the post-award stage of building construction projects. The position requires strong technical knowledge combined with practical experience managing costs, subcontractors, valuations, variations, and contractual requirements.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working across architectural, civil and structural, and finishing packages while maintaining accurate commercial records and supporting the successful financial delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
The role will involve a broad range of quantity surveying and commercial management responsibilities, including:
- Carry out detailed quantity measurements for building construction works.
- Review project drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and contract documentation.
- Prepare and assess interim valuations and payment applications.
- Review subcontractor measurements and certify completed works.
- Monitor subcontractor accounts and commercial performance.
- Manage architectural, civil/structural, and finishing packages from a post-award perspective.
- Evaluate variations and assist with accurate variation pricing.
- Review contractual claims and supporting documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Monitor project costs and support effective commercial cost control.
- Maintain accurate records of valuations, measurements, variations, claims, and subcontractor payments.
- Ensure commercial activities comply with the relevant contract conditions and project requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support commercial decision-making by providing accurate cost and quantity information.
- Apply appropriate contractual procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
A minimum of 12 years of relevant Quantity Surveying experience in building construction is required. The position is particularly suited to professionals who have developed strong post-award experience on complex building projects.
