SPIE Global Services Energy is hiring a Construction Supervisor – Mechanical & Piping for its Qatar operations. This position is suited to an experienced mechanical and piping professional with a strong background in oil and gas construction, EPC projects, brownfield and greenfield developments, and plant shutdown activities.

The role focuses on supervising mechanical and piping construction activities at project sites while ensuring that work is completed safely, to the required quality standards, and according to approved project schedules, specifications, procedures, and IFC drawings.

Construction Supervisor – Mechanical & Piping Job Overview

The Construction Supervisor will report to the Head of Construction and work closely with the Construction Lead and other project teams. The position involves monitoring contractor and subcontractor activities and coordinating construction work with engineering, QA/QC, safety, and other stakeholders.

The role may cover both brownfield and greenfield CAT III, IV, V and VI projects, including work carried out under normal plant operating conditions and during shutdowns.

Key Responsibilities

The Construction Supervisor will oversee mechanical and piping construction activities at site and ensure that work complies with applicable project specifications and safety requirements.

Key duties include:

  • Supervise mechanical and piping construction activities from field execution through mechanical completion.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and schedules.
  • Ensure construction work follows QatarEnergy LNG health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Promote and maintain strong safety standards throughout construction activities.
  • Participate in applicable safety programs and ensure site teams follow required procedures.
  • Review and approve contractor construction method statements and monitor their implementation at site.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with Permit to Work (PTW) requirements and applicable site regulations.
  • Coordinate construction activities between contractors, subcontractors, third parties, QatarEnergy LNG, engineering, and QA/QC teams.
  • Continuously monitor critical construction activities against project technical specifications.
  • Track construction progress and report delays, concerns, risks, and required mitigation measures.
  • Participate in weekly construction meetings and provide updates on site activities.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Support the successful execution of construction activities while maintaining project quality and schedule requirements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification such as a relevant diploma.

The position requires a minimum of 8 years of broad construction experience covering field execution and mechanical completion within mechanical and piping disciplines, preferably on EPC oil and gas projects.

Relevant experience should include:

  • Brownfield and greenfield oil and gas projects.
  • Onshore and, where required, offshore construction projects.
  • Plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
  • Oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical facilities.
  • Installation and testing of piping systems and valves.
  • Installation of static and rotating equipment.
  • Hot tapping and cold tapping activities.
  • Mechanical and piping construction supervision.

Knowledge of recognized industry codes and standards including ASME, API, ASNT and NACE is required.

Experience with HVAC system installation, ductwork, and associated piping can be an additional advantage.

Skills Required

The successful candidate should have strong supervisory and site-control skills, along with excellent leadership and interpersonal abilities. The role requires someone who can work effectively with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining construction progress under demanding project schedules.
