Who Should Apply?
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in hotel recreation, fitness centers, leisure facilities, sports clubs, entertainment venues, or similar guest-focused environments.
The strongest candidates will be comfortable interacting with guests while also taking responsibility for safety, equipment, activities, and team support. A calm approach is important because recreation staff may need to respond quickly when an activity becomes unsafe or an incident occurs.
Candidates with valid First Aid and CPR certification and previous supervisory experience should make these qualifications highly visible on their CV.
Skills That Will Help You Succeed
Key skills include recreation activity coordination, guest engagement, safety awareness, emergency response, equipment inspection, inventory control, team coaching, communication, and customer service.
You should also be comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and navigating different recreational environments. Attention to detail is essential when inspecting equipment, identifying hazards, and ensuring guests follow facility rules.
How to Stand Out
Your CV should clearly show the type of recreation or leisure environment where you have worked.
Highlight the activities you supervised, the size of the team you supported, and your experience with guest registration, scheduling, equipment checks, safety procedures, and incident reporting.
List CPR and First Aid certifications prominently. If you have experience improving guest participation, organizing activities, training employees, or maintaining recreation equipment, include specific examples rather than generic statements.
Interview Preparation
Expect questions such as:
- How would you respond if a guest ignored a recreation facility safety rule?
- What would you do if you noticed damaged equipment before an activity?
- How would you handle an emergency involving a guest?
- How do you motivate recreation employees?
- How would you encourage guests to participate in activities?
