Job Description/Specification:
GMG is seeking an experienced Inventory / Stock Controller to support retail purchasing, replenishment, and inventory management operations. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate stock records, controlling stock movements, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring stock remains within approved business budgets.
The successful candidate will work closely with store operations and warehouse teams to ensure efficient receiving, storage, transfers, returns, and inventory counting while maintaining high standards of accuracy, compliance, and stock control.
About This Role
The role involves managing day-to-day inventory activities, ensuring delivered goods match purchase orders, maintaining accurate system records, controlling stock movements, and identifying discrepancies. The position also supports returns, damaged stock management, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory activities.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Stock Management
- Maintain accurate inventory and stock management systems within agreed parameters.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure inventory remains within approved budgets.
- Manage and record all stock movements, transfers, receipts, and deliveries.
- Verify delivered goods against purchase orders for quantity, condition, model number, and specifications.
- Scan and record incoming and outgoing stock accurately and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain complete documentation for all inventory movements.
Receiving & Returns
- Receive and inspect supplies, materials, equipment, and retail products.
- Complete required documentation for received stock.
- Manage product returns and maintain designated areas for returned, expired, damaged, and unsaleable goods.
- Coordinate the preparation and transfer of damaged stock to the warehouse after obtaining the required approvals.
Inventory Control & Compliance
- Conduct weekly inventory cycle counts based on system reports.
- Support annual physical inventory counts and reconciliation.
- Maintain an organised storeroom and ensure efficient allocation of storage space.
- Ensure the storeroom complies with company regulations and health and safety requirements.
- Monitor inventory budgets and alert the Store Manager when defined limits are approaching or exceeded.
Store Operations Support
- Coordinate with store operations teams to identify stock discrepancies, damaged products, and inventory requirements.
- Ensure stock is properly scanned, packed, documented, and transferred.
- Support purchasing and replenishment activities to maintain appropriate product availability.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant inventory, stock control, warehouse, or retail experience.
- Minimum 1 year in a similar inventory or stock-control role.
- Previous experience in the retail industry is required.
- Strong understanding of inventory management and stock-control procedures.
