Job Description/Specification:
Lift and elevator technicians are essential to keeping vertical transportation systems safe, reliable and operational in residential, commercial and infrastructure projects. This opportunity in Doha is suited to experienced electrical or mechanical professionals with hands-on knowledge of elevator installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
The position involves working on elevators and escalators, responding to service issues, carrying out inspections and supporting modernization and upgrade activities. Experience with major international elevator manufacturers can be particularly valuable for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and assemble elevators, escalators and associated mechanical and electrical components.
- Inspect elevator systems to identify faults, wear and potential safety issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on elevator equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults and replace defective components.
- Test newly installed or repaired systems to confirm safe and reliable operation.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and restore elevator functionality efficiently.
- Follow applicable safety procedures, technical standards and building requirements.
- Maintain service reports, inspection records and parts inventory documentation.
- Communicate with building owners, facility managers and occupants regarding service requirements.
- Support modernization, upgrades and improvements to existing elevator systems.
- Work with engineers, electricians and other technicians during installation and maintenance activities.
- Provide customers with basic guidance on safe equipment operation and routine maintenance.
Requirements
Candidates should ideally have:
- A degree or diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Around 5–8 years of relevant elevator or lift experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in elevator installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of both electrical and mechanical elevator systems.
- Experience diagnosing faults and carrying out emergency repairs.
- Familiarity with elevator safety procedures and technical standards.
- Experience with established global elevator brands is highly relevant.
- Good technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively with technicians, engineers and customers.
- Willingness to work six days per week and perform overtime when required.
Candidates who can join immediately may be particularly relevant to the current requirement.
Why You'll Love This Opportunity
- Work with a multinational organisation operating in the vertical transportation industry.
- Gain exposure to elevator installation, maintenance, repair and modernization.
- Company-provided accommodation and transportation.
- Food allowance and medical insurance.
- Air ticket and overtime according to company policy.
- Opportunity to work with experienced technical teams in Qatar.
Who Should Apply?
This position is best suited to experienced Lift or Elevator Technicians who have spent several years working directly with elevator systems rather than only in general electrical or mechanical maintenance.
Professionals with experience handling equipment from major manufacturers such as KONE, OTIS, Schindler, Mitsubishi, Hitachi or ThyssenKrupp may have particularly relevant backgrounds.
The ideal candidate should be technically confident, safety-conscious and comfortable responding to faults under time pressure. Good communication is also important because technicians may interact directly with building managers and customers.
Skills That Will Help You Succeed
Strong diagnostic skills are essential. Elevator technicians need to understand how electrical controls, mechanical components and safety systems work together to identify faults efficiently.
Useful technical skills include preventive maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical repair, component replacement, testing, commissioning and equipment inspection.
You should also be comfortable reading technical drawings and service documentation. Because safety is central to the role, following procedures carefully and recognising potential hazards before starting work are critical.
How to Stand Out
Your CV should focus on hands-on elevator experience rather than general engineering duties.
Highlight:
- Elevator and escalator brands you have worked with.
- Years of installation and maintenance experience.
- Types of elevator systems or equipment handled.
- Experience with breakdown response and emergency repairs.
- Preventive maintenance and inspection responsibilities.
- Modernization or upgrade projects.
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Relevant technical certifications or manufacturer training.
- Qatar or GCC experience, if applicable.
If possible, mention the number or types of elevators maintained and the scale of projects you have worked on.
Interview Preparation
Expect technical questions about diagnosing elevator faults, preventive maintenance and safety procedures.
You may be asked how you would approach an elevator that suddenly stops operating, how you identify whether a fault is electrical or mechanical, or what checks you perform after completing a repair.
Prepare specific examples from previous installations, breakdowns or modernization projects. Be ready to explain the fault, your diagnostic process, the repair performed and how you confirmed the system was safe to return to service.
You should also be prepared to discuss your experience with specific elevator manufacturers and equipment.
Career Growth
Experienced Lift Technicians can progress into roles such as Senior Elevator Technician, Service Supervisor, Field Service Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, Commissioning Engineer or Elevator Service Manager.
