Job Description/Specification:

A Recreation Attendant plays an important role in creating a safe, enjoyable and welcoming experience for hotel guests using fitness, entertainment and recreational facilities. This full-time hospitality opportunity in Doha is suited to energetic, service-focused professionals who enjoy working with people and helping guests make the most of their leisure experience.

Based at The Pearl Island, the role involves coordinating recreational activities, promoting available facilities, maintaining equipment and supporting guests while following established safety procedures. It is a good opportunity for candidates looking to build a career in hospitality, leisure, fitness or guest services in Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and promote recreational activity schedules, agendas and guest information materials.
  • Encourage guests to participate in available fitness, entertainment and recreational activities.
  • Register and schedule guests for activities and provide clear information about facilities and services.
  • Maintain a welcoming, enjoyable and professional atmosphere in recreational areas.
  • Monitor activities and ensure guests follow relevant safety rules and facility procedures.
  • Identify situations where a guest may not be able to safely participate in an activity and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Check recreational supplies, materials and equipment and report low stock or maintenance requirements.
  • Clean, organise and maintain recreation equipment and activity areas.
  • Assist with customer transactions and payments where required.
  • Support team members through coaching, motivation and by maintaining high service and safety standards.

Requirements

Candidates should ideally have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • At least one year of related work experience in hospitality, recreation, fitness, entertainment or guest services.
  • At least one year of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Relevant training or knowledge related to recreation and fitness equipment.
  • Any certifications required by local authorities or applicable regulations.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work professionally with guests, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Comfort working in an active environment that may involve standing, walking and handling recreational equipment throughout the shift.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

  • Work in a luxury hospitality environment at The Pearl Island in Doha.
  • Build practical experience in recreation, guest services and hotel operations.
  • Interact directly with guests and contribute to their overall hotel experience.
  • Develop skills in activity coordination, safety awareness and customer service.
  • Gain experience that can support future career opportunities in hospitality, fitness, entertainment or recreation management.

Who Should Apply?

This role is well suited to someone who is outgoing, responsible and naturally comfortable interacting with people from different backgrounds. The ideal candidate should enjoy creating a positive atmosphere while also taking safety procedures seriously.

Candidates with experience as a Recreation Attendant, Fitness Assistant, Guest Activities Coordinator, Leisure Assistant or similar hospitality professional may have relevant experience. A background in hotels, resorts, fitness centres, sports facilities or entertainment venues can also be beneficial.

The strongest applicants will be able to balance guest engagement with attention to safety, cleanliness and operational standards.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

Excellent customer service is essential, but successful recreation professionals also need strong observation and communication skills. You should be able to explain activities clearly, encourage participation and respond calmly when unexpected situations arise.

Useful skills include activity coordination, guest engagement, equipment handling, basic inventory monitoring and teamwork. Time management is also important when balancing guest requests, scheduled activities and daily operational responsibilities.

Because the role involves direct guest interaction, professionalism, patience and a positive attitude can make a significant difference.

How to Stand Out

Hiring managers will want to see more than a general interest in fitness or hospitality. Your CV should highlight practical experience and relevant certifications.

Consider including:

  • Previous experience in hotels, resorts, fitness centres or recreational facilities.
  • CPR, First Aid or other relevant safety certifications.
  • Types of recreational activities or facilities you have supported.
  • Experience organising guest activities or events.
  • Customer service achievements or positive guest feedback.
  • Any supervisory, coaching or team leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience maintaining equipment, supplies or activity areas.

Where possible, use specific examples to demonstrate your contribution, such as the number of guests supported, activities coordinated or improvements made to service quality.

Interview Preparation

You may be asked how you would encourage guests to participate in activities while respecting different personalities and preferences.

Prepare examples showing how you have handled customer concerns, maintained safety standards or worked effectively during busy periods. You could also be asked about your CPR and First Aid knowledge, equipment safety or how you would respond appropriately to an unexpected situation within a recreation area.

Focus on demonstrating professionalism, good judgement, teamwork and a genuine commitment to guest service.

Career Growth

Experience in this role can support future opportunities such as Recreation Supervisor, Fitness Coordinator, Guest Activities Manager, Leisure Manager or other hospitality and guest experience positions.
