Qatar Stock Exchange Banking & Financial Services To be discussed

Job Description/Specification:

The Qatar Stock Exchange is seeking a Business Development Specialist to support strategic growth, market development, and institutional priorities. This role sits within the Business Development function and involves turning complex business questions into structured analysis, recommendations, and practical plans for senior decision-makers.

It is a strong opportunity for professionals with backgrounds in strategy, consulting, business development, financial services, or capital markets who can combine research and analytical thinking with clear executive communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structure strategic and business development topics into clear questions, assumptions, workplans, and analytical approaches.
  • Research markets, competitors, benchmarks, and relevant business developments to support strategic assessments.
  • Develop and test hypotheses using quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Combine research and internal data to assess opportunities, market positions, and potential business implications.
  • Prepare recommendations that clearly explain findings, trade-offs, dependencies, and required decisions.
  • Develop presentation decks, briefing notes, opportunity assessments, and other materials for senior management.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to collect information, validate assumptions, and align different perspectives.
  • Manage assigned workstreams by tracking deadlines, actions, dependencies, and key decisions.
  • Identify delays, information gaps, or competing priorities and escalate them appropriately.
  • Review and guide the work of Business Development Analysts to maintain quality and consistency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • A master's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a similar field is preferred.
  • 5–7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Background in consulting, Big Four, professional services, multinational organizations, financial services, capital markets, or similar environments.
  • Experience in strategy, business development, market research, or business analysis.
  • Strong ability to break down complex business problems and develop structured solutions.
  • Experience turning research and analysis into practical recommendations.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and manage strategic workstreams.
  • Experience reviewing junior colleagues' work and guiding analysts.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Arabic language skills are desirable.
  • Knowledge of capital markets or financial services is an advantage.

Why You’ll Like This Opportunity

  • Exposure to strategic initiatives within Qatar's capital markets ecosystem.
  • Direct involvement in projects requiring senior-level analysis and decision support.
  • Opportunity to work across different business areas and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Scope to develop further expertise in business development, strategy, and market development.
  • Experience supporting institutional priorities within a major financial market organization.

Who Should Apply?

This role is best suited to a mid-career professional who has moved beyond basic research and analysis and can independently structure a business problem from the beginning.

Candidates from consulting, Big Four advisory, investment or financial services, capital markets, strategy, or corporate development backgrounds may be particularly relevant. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with incomplete information, challenging assumptions, and presenting conclusions to senior stakeholders.

You should also be comfortable managing several workstreams while maintaining attention to detail and supporting junior analysts.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

The role requires a combination of strategic thinking and practical execution. Problem structuring, hypothesis development, market research, financial analysis, presentation development, stakeholder management, and project coordination are central to the position.

Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills are also likely to be valuable because much of the work involves converting complex information into concise, decision-ready materials.

How to Stand Out

Your CV should demonstrate the business problems you have solved rather than simply listing strategy or business development as skills.

Highlight projects where you conducted market research, evaluated strategic opportunities, developed recommendations, prepared executive presentations, or supported senior management decisions. Where possible, quantify the impact of your work through revenue opportunities, cost savings, market expansion, process improvements, or other measurable outcomes.

Capital markets exposure can also strengthen your profile. Mention experience involving exchanges, listed companies, investors, brokers, financial institutions, or market infrastructure if applicable.

Interview Preparation

Expect questions around how you approach an unfamiliar business problem. You may be asked to explain how you would structure a market assessment, develop a hypothesis, evaluate an opportunity, or turn conflicting stakeholder inputs into a recommendation.

Prepare examples demonstrating how you managed a complex project, influenced stakeholders, presented analysis to senior management, or guided a junior colleague.

Career Growth

This position can provide a pathway toward senior Business Development, Strategy, Market Development, Corporate Strategy, or strategic planning roles. Experience within a capital markets institution can also be valuable for professionals seeking longer-term careers across financial services and market infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
