Job Description/Specification:
A leading aviation organization in Qatar is seeking an experienced Airfield Equipment Supervisor to oversee the operation, maintenance, and personnel involved in runway, taxiway, and apron surface cleaning activities at Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport.
The role is responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of rubber removal machines, mechanical sweepers, friction testers, blowers, and related pavement maintenance equipment. The successful candidate will coordinate maintenance, equipment scheduling, operator training, safety activities, and supplier support while ensuring compliance with aviation and airside safety standards.
About This Role
As an Airfield Equipment Supervisor, you will supervise daily equipment operations, coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, monitor equipment performance, manage spare parts, and ensure operators are competent and properly trained. You will also support emergency preparedness, adverse weather recalibration activities, and continuous improvement through KPI monitoring and operational reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the operation and availability of airfield pavement maintenance equipment, including sweepers, rubber removal machines, friction testers, and blowers.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with the Motor Transport Section.
- Manage equipment breakdowns and corrective repairs to minimize downtime.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
- Monitor equipment utilization, service schedules, and availability reports.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts replacements, and equipment performance.
Team Supervision & Training
- Supervise in-house equipment operators and outsourced service providers.
- Plan and coordinate personnel schedules to support daily airfield operations.
- Ensure operators are trained in the safe and effective use of airfield maintenance equipment.
- Provide refresher training on emergency procedures and adverse weather operations.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture across the team.
- Maintain proactive communication with operators to ensure work plans are understood and operational targets are achieved.
Airfield Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities comply with applicable aviation safety requirements and airside operational procedures.
- Promote safe working practices during runway, taxiway, and apron maintenance activities.
- Support adverse weather recalibration exercises and emergency preparedness activities.
- Ensure equipment inspections and operations meet applicable statutory, ICAO, and airfield maintenance standards.
- Identify potential hazards and take appropriate corrective action to prevent incidents.
KPI & Performance Management
- Develop and present equipment performance KPI reports in coordination with the line manager.
- Analyze equipment availability, utilization, downtime, and maintenance trends.
- Identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across airfield maintenance operations.
Inventory & Supplier Coordination
- Manage spare parts, consumables, tools, and maintenance inventory.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing shortages, waste, and unnecessary inventory.
- Coordinate with suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for maintenance, repairs, calibration, and equipment upgrades.
- Ensure required parts and technical support are available to maintain operational readiness.
Hands-On Operational Support
- Operate mechanical sweepers and rubber removal equipment when required.
- Provide technical and operational assistance to equipment operators.
- Support the execution of runway, taxiway, and apron surface cleaning activities.
- Perform other duties related to the position as directed by management.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School, Vocational Qualification, Diploma, or equivalent with at least 3 years of job-related experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory experience, preferably within airfield maintenance.
- Practical experience with airfield pavement maintenance equipment such as sweepers, friction testers, rubber removal machines, and related equipment.
- Experience working in a multi-airport or aviation environment is preferred.
- Experience supervising equipment operators and outsourced vendors.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of airfield equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to interpret equipment specifications, operation manuals, maintenance procedures, and preventive maintenance checklists.
- Knowledge of airside operational constraints and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with local statutory requirements and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Knowledge of ICAO regulations and airfield maintenance standards is an advantage.
- Understanding of emergency response and adverse weather operational requirements.
- Formal training or certification in equipment operation or maintenance is preferred.
