Job Description/Specification:
Qatar Airways Group is seeking an experienced Airfield Pavement Maintenance Supervisor to oversee runway rubber removal, surface cleaning, and pavement maintenance operations at Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Doha International Airport (DIA). The successful candidate will ensure all airfield maintenance activities comply with aviation safety regulations while maximizing equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and runway safety.
This role is ideal for professionals with experience in airfield maintenance, heavy equipment operations, airport engineering, or aviation infrastructure maintenance who possess strong leadership, planning, and equipment management skills.
About This Role
As an Airfield Pavement Maintenance Supervisor, you will manage airfield maintenance equipment, coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, supervise operators, monitor equipment performance, and ensure runway cleaning operations are executed safely and efficiently. You will work closely with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, and OEMs to maintain continuous operational readiness while meeting ICAO standards and airport safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Airfield Maintenance Operations
- Supervise runway rubber removal and pavement cleaning operations across runways, taxiways, and aprons.
- Ensure compliance with aviation safety regulations and operational procedures.
- Coordinate daily work plans to maintain runway friction and pavement safety.
- Operate rubber removal equipment and mechanical sweepers when required.
Equipment Management
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with the Motor Transport Section.
- Manage corrective maintenance and equipment breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
- Conduct routine inspections of sweepers, friction testers, blowers, and rubber removal equipment.
- Monitor equipment availability and utilization to support uninterrupted airport operations.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records, repair histories, and equipment performance logs.
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise airfield equipment operators and outsourced maintenance contractors.
- Coordinate technical training on equipment operation, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings to reinforce operational safety.
- Ensure all personnel understand work plans, emergency procedures, and operational requirements.
Inventory & Vendor Coordination
- Manage inventory levels for spare parts, consumables, and maintenance tools.
- Coordinate with suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for repairs, calibration, upgrades, and technical support.
- Optimize inventory to prevent shortages while minimizing unnecessary stock.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with airport regulations, ICAO standards, and statutory requirements.
- Support emergency response planning and adverse weather preparedness.
- Coordinate recalibration exercises and emergency operational training.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to airfield safety protocols.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Develop and present Equipment Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.
- Analyze equipment performance and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Prepare maintenance reports, inspection records, and operational documentation.
- Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and service performance.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High School Certificate, Vocational Qualification, or Diploma with 3 years of relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory role within airfield maintenance or similar operations.
- Experience managing heavy maintenance equipment and airport pavement operations.
- Experience supervising maintenance personnel and contractors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal certification in equipment operation or maintenance.
- Experience working across multiple airports.
- Knowledge of ICAO regulations and airfield maintenance standards.
- Experience in emergency response planning and adverse weather operations.
- Familiarity with local aviation regulations and statutory compliance requirements.
