Job Description/Specification:
A leading organization in Qatar is seeking an experienced shipping and chartering professional to support the growth and profitability of its bulk shipping freight operations. The position involves negotiating shipping contracts, managing freight requirements, and developing commercial relationships with clients, shipowners, and shipbrokers.
The successful candidate will bring strong freight market knowledge, commercial judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to manage risks and opportunities across an international shipping environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and execute shipping contracts within the bulk shipping freight market.
- Develop freight and chartering activities to support continued business growth and profitability.
- Coordinate closely with the Assistant Manager, Shipping and Operations on commercial and operational priorities.
- Manage freight requirements from Sales and Planning teams.
- Maintain effective relationships with clients, shipowners, and shipbrokers.
- Monitor freight and chartering markets to identify commercial opportunities.
- Provide commercial recommendations to internal stakeholders based on market conditions and business requirements.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Work with support teams across finance, legal, contracts, trading, and operations.
- Support standardization, process improvements, and operational efficiency.
- Make timely, risk-based decisions when working with limited information or challenging market conditions.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 5 years of chartering experience with a leading International Oil Company (IOC), National Oil Company (NOC), or reputable shipping company.
- Strong knowledge of chartering and freight markets.
- Experience working across different contract types and geographical regions.
- Broad commercial knowledge covering trading, risk management, sales operations, finance, contract administration, legal matters, economic analysis, and project management.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong client relationship management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in complex and non-standard commercial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make timely, risk-based decisions under challenging circumstances.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Law, Business Administration, or an equivalent discipline from an internationally recognized university.
- Postgraduate qualification such as an MSc or MBA is preferred.
