Job Description/Specification:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Power Plant Operator to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), potline rectifiers, and associated utility systems. This role is critical in maintaining continuous plant operations while supporting production targets and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in power generation or industrial utility plants, possess strong operational knowledge of rotating equipment, and demonstrate a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
About This Role
As a Power Plant Operator, you will monitor and operate power generation equipment, conduct routine inspections, record operating parameters, identify equipment abnormalities, and support maintenance and commissioning activities. Working closely with the Shift Supervisor and Main Control Room Operator, you will ensure uninterrupted plant operations while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
- Operate gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, rectifiers, and utility systems safely and efficiently.
- Monitor plant equipment to ensure continuous and reliable operation.
- Follow instructions from the Shift Supervisor and Main Control Room Operator.
- Maintain plant performance within established operating parameters.
- Ensure standby equipment is available for emergency operation.
Equipment Monitoring
- Perform routine field inspections of plant equipment.
- Record operational parameters and maintain accurate shift logs.
- Identify abnormal operating conditions and report equipment defects promptly.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all operational data is accurately documented.
Maintenance Support
- Assist with plant startup, shutdown, testing, and recommissioning after maintenance.
- Support maintenance teams during planned and emergency outages.
- Verify equipment readiness before returning assets to service.
- Participate in equipment inspections and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist in improving equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Follow all operational safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Identify workplace hazards and report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within assigned work areas.
- Respond effectively to plant emergencies using established procedures.
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in on-the-job training and competency development programs.
- Assist in training junior operators where required.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge and operational skills.
- Contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
- Technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Plant, or Process Engineering is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience working in a power generation plant.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Desalination Operator or equivalent industrial plant operator is preferred.
- Experience operating gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers, or utility systems.
- Previous experience in power generation, utilities, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments is highly desirable.
