Job Description/Specification:
Element by Marriott International is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities and equipment. The role involves responding to guest maintenance requests, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, and completing general repairs across guestrooms and hotel areas.
The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, air-conditioning, painting, and general building maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Respond promptly to guest repair and maintenance requests.
- Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of tools and mechanical equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and complete basic repairs on hotel equipment and systems.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, including unclogging drains and toilets.
- Repair or replace electrical switches, outlets, lamps, extension cords, and other basic electrical components.
- Replace light bulbs, A/C filters, and other guestroom maintenance items.
- Complete painting, surface preparation, drywall, wood trim, and minor carpentry repairs.
- Support maintenance of kitchen equipment, landscaping, sprinklers, and general building systems.
Engineering Operations
- Maintain engineering tools, spare parts, supplies, and maintenance inventory.
- Identify and operate equipment and building utility shut-off valves when required.
- Communicate completed work, outstanding issues, and maintenance problems between shifts.
- Assist with air-conditioning, refrigeration, mechanical, pneumatic/electronic controls, and energy conservation activities.
- Use basic computer systems to enter maintenance information and adjust equipment schedules or temperature settings.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before carrying out applicable maintenance work.
Safety & Guest Service
- Follow Marriott safety, security, engineering, and quality procedures.
- Report maintenance hazards, accidents, equipment defects, and unsafe conditions.
- Store tools, equipment, and flammable materials safely.
- Communicate professionally with guests and resolve maintenance concerns efficiently.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive working relationships with hotel teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in general building maintenance, painting, or repair work.
- Hotel engineering or hospitality maintenance experience is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, carpentry, painting, and kitchen equipment.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- No previous supervisory experience required.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding maintenance duties, including lifting or carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, working on ladders and stairs, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and working in different areas of the property.
