Microsoft is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Data Center Technician (DCT) to join its Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team. As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for installing, deploying, troubleshooting, maintaining, and decommissioning server hardware and IT infrastructure within Microsoft's data centers. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you will follow industry-leading operational standards while contributing to a culture of innovation, collaboration, security, and continuous improvement.
About This Role
The Data Center Technician supports daily data center operations by performing hardware installations, diagnostics, equipment maintenance, server deployments, cable management, asset tracking, and hardware refresh activities. Key Responsibilities
🖥️ Data Center Operations
- Stage, configure, and deploy servers, networking equipment, and IT hardware.
- Perform hardware installation, replacement, upgrades, and decommissioning activities.
- Execute planned infrastructure changes following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Support hardware refresh projects, memory upgrades, and system rebuilds.
- Maintain high operational availability across Microsoft data center environments.
🔧 Hardware Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and troubleshoot server hardware and infrastructure issues.
- Identify faulty components and perform hardware replacements with minimal service disruption.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and operational health checks.
- Verify proper grounding, labeling, staging, and cable management after deployments.
- Perform post-installation quality assurance inspections.
🌐 Infrastructure & Asset Management
- Install and organize structured cabling according to Microsoft deployment standards.
- Maintain accurate hardware inventory and asset records.
- Support rack installations, equipment relocation, and hardware lifecycle management.
- Ensure all equipment is properly labeled and documented.
- Assist with inventory audits and equipment tracking.
📊 Incident Management & Operational Support
- Escalate hardware failures and operational incidents to Technician Leads and Engineering teams.
- Document troubleshooting activities, service requests, and operational updates.
- Follow incident response procedures and operational playbooks.
- Support business continuity through timely issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate operational records and maintenance documentation.
🤝 Team Collaboration & Continuous Learning
- Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and operations teams on infrastructure projects.
- Mentor and assist junior technicians during complex maintenance activities.
- Participate in technical training, certification programs, and career development initiatives.
- Share operational knowledge and best practices during team meetings.

Minimum Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, server components, and IT infrastructure.
- Experience supporting IT equipment, computer hardware, or related technology.
- Experience in data centers, desktop support, field services, or hardware maintenance is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Server+
- CompTIA Network+
- Basic Structured Cabling (BSC) certification.
- Experience with server deployments, cable management, or enterprise hardware environments.
