Job Description/Specification:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Welding Inspector to join a leading Oil & Gas project in Qatar. This role is ideal for professionals with extensive expertise in mechanical welding inspections, quality assurance, non-destructive testing (NDT), and coating inspections who are committed to ensuring compliance with international standards and delivering world-class quality across fabrication, construction, and maintenance activities.
As a Senior Welding Inspector, you will oversee welding inspection activities, monitor fabrication quality, verify compliance with project specifications, perform quality audits, coordinate NDT activities, and ensure all mechanical works comply with ASME, API, ISO, and client requirements. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining quality, safety, and integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
About This Role
The Senior Welding Inspector is responsible for inspecting welding, fabrication, pressure equipment, piping, structural steel, and coating activities to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, international codes, and quality management systems. You will work closely with QA/QC teams, contractors, third-party inspectors, and client representatives to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and project quality.
Key Responsibilities
🔩 Welding Inspection & Quality Control
- Perform welding inspections during fabrication, construction, installation, and maintenance activities.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material traceability.
- Inspect fit-up, joint preparation, welding parameters, and completed welds.
- Ensure welding activities comply with approved WPS, PQR, and applicable codes.
- Monitor repair welding and verify corrective actions.
🛠️ Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Oversight
- Review and witness NDT activities, including Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Penetrant Testing (PT).
- Verify NDT procedures and personnel qualifications.
- Review inspection reports and evaluate acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate with NDT technicians to ensure timely completion of inspections.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
🎨 Coating & Surface Inspection
- Inspect surface preparation and protective coating applications.
- Verify coating systems comply with project specifications and international standards.
- Witness coating inspections and evaluate coating quality.
- Coordinate with coating inspectors and contractors to resolve quality issues.
- Monitor coating repairs and corrective actions.
📋 Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ASME, API, ISO, and client quality requirements.
- Conduct quality surveillance and inspection throughout project execution.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Review Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures, and inspection records.
- Support implementation of quality management systems.
📊 Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and quality documentation.
- Maintain welding records, inspection logs, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Review material certificates, welding documentation, and quality dossiers.
- Provide recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready.
🤝 Project Coordination
- Coordinate with engineers, construction teams, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Attend quality meetings and technical discussions.
- Support project planning and inspection scheduling.
- Provide technical guidance on welding and quality-related matters.
- Promote continuous improvement in quality processes.
🛡️ Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure inspection activities comply with HSE policies and site safety procedures.
- Promote safe working practices during inspection and testing activities.
- Verify compliance with Permit-to-Work (PTW) requirements.
- Report quality and safety concerns promptly.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in mechanical welding inspection within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Extensive experience in fabrication, construction, maintenance, shutdown, or EPC projects.
- Previous Gulf experience is highly preferred.
- Prior Qatar project experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Mandatory Certifications
- CSWIP 3.2.2 Certified (or equivalent Senior Welding Inspector certification).
- AWS Senior Welding Inspector (accepted equivalent where applicable).
- ASNT / ISO 9712 / PCN NDT Level II in:
- Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
Preferred Certifications

- API 510 – Pressure Vessel Inspector
- API 570 – Piping Inspector
