Job Description/Specification:
InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, one of Qatar’s premier luxury hotels and part of the globally renowned IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Washerman to join its Laundry Operations team. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with experience in hotel laundry, commercial laundry services, or textile care who are committed to maintaining exceptional quality and hygiene standards.
As a Washerman, you will be responsible for washing, processing, and caring for hotel linens, guest garments, uniforms, and other textile items using industrial laundry equipment. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will ensure every item is cleaned, handled, and prepared according to luxury hospitality standards.
About This Role
The Washerman is responsible for operating industrial laundry equipment, sorting and processing laundry, inspecting garments and linens, handling laundry chemicals safely, and supporting the smooth operation of the hotel's laundry department. Working closely with Housekeeping, Uniform Room, Dry Cleaning, and Pressing teams, you will help deliver outstanding laundry services that enhance the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
🧺 Laundry Operations
- Operate industrial washing machines and laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
- Sort guest laundry, hotel linens, uniforms, and textile items according to fabric type, colour, and washing requirements.
- Load and unload laundry machines following established operating procedures.
- Select appropriate wash cycles, temperatures, and chemical dosages for different fabrics.
- Monitor washing processes to ensure consistent cleaning quality.
👕 Garment & Linen Care
- Inspect linens, uniforms, and guest garments before and after washing.
- Identify stains, damages, missing items, or garments requiring special treatment.
- Ensure delicate fabrics receive appropriate care and handling.
- Prevent damage, shrinkage, or colour transfer during washing.
- Maintain high standards of garment presentation and textile care.
🧼 Equipment, Chemicals & Workplace Safety
- Handle laundry chemicals and detergents safely in accordance with hotel and manufacturer guidelines.
- Monitor chemical usage to ensure correct dosing and efficient operation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry work area.
- Report equipment malfunctions, leaks, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Follow hotel health, safety, hygiene, and environmental procedures at all times.
🤝 Operational Support & Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with the Pressing, Dry Cleaning, Uniform Room, and Housekeeping teams.
- Assist with sorting, folding, counting, and transferring laundry items when required.
- Support efficient workflow during busy operational periods.
- Participate in departmental briefings, training programmes, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to achieving departmental productivity and service standards.
🌟 Quality Assurance
- Ensure all processed laundry meets InterContinental quality standards.
- Maintain accurate handling of guest laundry and hotel property.
- Minimise loss or damage of garments and linens.
- Follow established quality control procedures throughout the laundry process.
- Support continuous improvement of laundry operations.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification is preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience as a Washerman, Laundry Attendant, Laundry Operator, or similar role in a hotel, resort, or commercial laundry environment is preferred.
- Experience operating industrial laundry equipment is an advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of industrial washing machines and commercial laundry operations.
- Basic understanding of fabrics, stain removal techniques, and textile care.
- Familiarity with laundry chemicals and safe handling procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Good organisational and teamwork skills.
- Basic English communication skills are preferred.
