QatarEnergy is seeking a highly experienced Senior Exploration Geophysicist – International Non-Operated Ventures (NOJV) to provide technical leadership and geophysical expertise across its international exploration portfolio. This senior role is responsible for supporting exploration activities, evaluating new venture opportunities, managing geophysical studies, and influencing strategic decisions within non-operated joint ventures (NOJVs) alongside leading International Oil Companies (IOCs).

The successful candidate will lead seismic interpretation, prospect evaluation, geophysical risk assessments, and integrated subsurface studies while representing QatarEnergy in technical committees and supporting portfolio growth through data-driven exploration strategies.

About This Role

As a Senior Exploration Geophysicist, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary subsurface teams to evaluate exploration opportunities, mature prospects to drill-ready status, oversee geophysical operations, and provide technical assurance on operator activities. You will also support venture management activities, contribute to strategic planning, and provide expert recommendations to senior management for investment and exploration decisions.

Key Responsibilities

🌍 Exploration & New Venture Evaluation

  • Evaluate international exploration opportunities and new venture prospects.
  • Conduct prospect and lead evaluations to support portfolio high-grading.
  • Perform geological risking and resource volume estimations.
  • Support exploration strategy development across non-operated assets.
  • Provide technical recommendations for exploration investment decisions.

🛰️ Seismic Interpretation & Geophysical Studies

  • Perform advanced seismic interpretation using 2D and 3D seismic datasets.
  • Apply quantitative interpretation (QI) techniques, including:
    • Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) Analysis
    • Rock Physics
    • Seismic Inversion
  • Support basin and play-based exploration studies.
  • Review and validate seismic acquisition, processing, and well seismic programmes.
  • Conduct integrated geophysical and geological interpretations.

⛽ Exploration Drilling & Prospect Maturation

  • Support exploration and appraisal drilling programmes.
  • Mature prospects from concept generation to drill-ready well locations.
  • Provide geophysical input during well planning and drilling operations.
  • Monitor drilling progress and evaluate exploration outcomes.
  • Contribute to post-well evaluations and lessons learned.

🤝 Joint Venture & Asset Management

  • Represent QatarEnergy in technical committee meetings and operator reviews.
  • Review operator work programmes, budgets, and technical deliverables.
  • Influence operator decisions to align with QatarEnergy's strategic objectives.
  • Support Annual Business Plans, scorecards, and venture risk registers.
  • Prepare technical recommendations for Technical Committee Meetings (TCM) and Operating Committee Meetings (OCM).

📊 Technical Assurance & Advisory

  • Review and quality assure operator geophysical studies and subsurface evaluations.
  • Provide expert advice on complex exploration and reservoir challenges.
  • Recommend cost-effective technical solutions and operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with QatarEnergy technical standards and international best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across assigned assets.

👥 Leadership & Knowledge Sharing

  • Lead multidisciplinary exploration teams and technical workshops.
  • Mentor junior geoscientists and support technical capability development.
  • Promote collaboration across geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, and drilling disciplines.
  • Facilitate technical knowledge sharing across international asset teams.
  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, joint venture partners, and senior management.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geophysics, Geology, Physics, or a related Earth Science discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Geophysics is highly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of international exploration experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Extensive experience supporting International Oil Companies (IOCs) and Non-Operated Joint Ventures (NOJVs).
  • Proven experience in exploration, appraisal, seismic interpretation, and prospect maturation.
  • Strong background in global sedimentary basins, including pre-salt and post-salt exploration environments.
  • Experience participating in Technical Committee Meetings (TCMs) and Operating Committee Meetings (OCMs).
