Job Description/Specification:
Element by Marriott Doha, part of Marriott International, is seeking a skilled and proactive General Maintenance Technician to support the daily operation and maintenance of hotel facilities. This full-time position is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in building maintenance, engineering, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and preventive maintenance within hospitality, facilities management, or commercial properties.
As a Maintenance Technician, you will respond to guest maintenance requests, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot building systems, and help ensure a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for guests and associates while maintaining Marriott's quality and safety standards.
About This Role
The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining guest rooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, and hotel infrastructure through preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs. Working closely with the Engineering team, you will ensure building systems operate efficiently while delivering prompt service and minimizing operational downtime.
Key Responsibilities
🔧 Building Maintenance & Repairs
- Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and engineering work orders.
- Perform routine repairs to guest rooms, public areas, and hotel facilities.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and complete minor repairs efficiently.
- Replace light bulbs, electrical outlets, switches, air-conditioning filters, and other room fixtures.
- Repair drywall, woodwork, doors, locks, furniture, and interior finishes.
⚙️ Engineering Systems Maintenance
- Inspect and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Perform basic maintenance on kitchen equipment, pumps, motors, and utility systems.
- Operate and identify building shut-off valves and utility controls.
- Monitor air handling units and adjust building temperatures when required.
- Support energy conservation initiatives and equipment efficiency programs.
🛠️ Preventive Maintenance
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance programs.
- Lubricate, clean, inspect, and service engineering equipment.
- Maintain maintenance records and complete work orders accurately.
- Monitor equipment performance and report recurring issues.
- Recommend replacement parts and maintenance improvements.
🌿 Facilities & Grounds Maintenance
- Perform minor landscaping repairs and maintain irrigation systems.
- Maintain exterior building areas and public spaces.
- Assist with painting, surface preparation, and cosmetic repairs.
- Ensure engineering workshops and maintenance areas remain organized and safe.
🛡️ Safety & Compliance
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before maintenance work.
- Comply with Marriott health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
- Report hazards, accidents, and equipment defects promptly.
- Store tools, chemicals, and flammable materials safely.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance and adhere to company standards.
🤝 Guest Service & Team Collaboration
- Communicate professionally with guests regarding maintenance requests.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Housekeeping and Front Office teams.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance tools, parts, and engineering supplies.
- Support colleagues and contribute to efficient hotel operations.
- Perform additional engineering duties assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities management, hotel engineering, or general maintenance.
- Experience in hospitality maintenance is an advantage.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance and building systems is preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
