Job Description/Specification:
VoPay International Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join its Doha, Qatar office. As part of a high-performing engineering team, you will design, build, and maintain the backend infrastructure powering VoPay's Fintech-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform. This role is ideal for developers passionate about scalable systems, API development, cloud technologies, and financial technology innovation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing secure, high-performance applications, architecting APIs, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with cross-functional agile teams to deliver world-class fintech solutions.
About This Role
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will architect and develop scalable backend services, manage server and database infrastructure, optimize application performance, and contribute to the continuous evolution of VoPay's payment platform while following software engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
💻 Backend Development
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance scalable backend applications.
- Build robust, secure, and high-performance APIs that power fintech products.
- Develop maintainable and reusable code following software engineering best practices.
- Deliver projects from concept through deployment and ongoing support.
⚙️ System Architecture & Performance
- Architect scalable backend systems capable of handling high transaction volumes.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Identify and resolve code inefficiencies and technical bottlenecks.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to rapid prototyping initiatives.
☁️ Cloud Infrastructure & Database Management
- Manage server infrastructure and backend environments.
- Optimize relational databases including MySQL and similar platforms.
- Support AWS cloud services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Aurora.
- Ensure infrastructure availability, security, and operational resilience.
🔍 Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance
- Diagnose and resolve application, API, and database issues.
- Ensure system reliability through testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Implement secure coding practices and maintain platform integrity.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain high development standards.
🤝 Agile Collaboration
- Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, QA engineers, and DevOps teams.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Share technical knowledge and mentor junior developers where appropriate.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering best practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of backend software development experience.
- Experience developing enterprise-grade web applications and APIs.
- Experience working in Agile software development environments.
Preferred Skills
- Strong proficiency in PHP (preferred) or Python, Java, Ruby, or .NET.
- Solid knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL.
- Experience with AWS cloud services including EC2, S3, RDS, and Aurora.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and backend architecture.
- Experience in payment processing, fintech, or financial systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture is an advantage.
