Egis is seeking a Route Engineer (Roads Operations & Maintenance) to join its team in Doha, Qatar. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of road infrastructure through effective maintenance planning, inspections, asset monitoring, and contractor coordination. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining road network performance while ensuring compliance with local regulations, safety standards, and operational requirements.
Working closely with maintenance teams, contractors, and stakeholders, the Route Engineer will contribute to the long-term sustainability of transportation infrastructure by implementing preventive maintenance strategies, analyzing performance data, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
About This Role
As a Route Engineer (Roads O&M), you will oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operational performance of assigned road networks. The position involves conducting inspections, planning maintenance activities, monitoring asset conditions, managing contractors, controlling maintenance costs, and ensuring all work complies with Qatar's infrastructure standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Road Operations & Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections to assess road conditions and identify maintenance requirements.
- Detect pavement defects, structural issues, and safety hazards affecting road users.
- Develop preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to maintain road performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance road network reliability and service quality.
Asset Management
- Monitor the condition of road assets and infrastructure components.
- Maintain accurate asset records within maintenance management systems.
- Analyze maintenance history and asset performance to support lifecycle planning.
- Recommend improvements based on inspection findings and operational data.
Contractor & Project Coordination
- Coordinate maintenance activities with contractors and internal maintenance teams.
- Supervise repair works, resurfacing projects, and routine maintenance operations.
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure quality, safety, and timely project completion.
- Ensure maintenance activities minimize disruption to road users.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Evaluate road performance indicators and maintenance metrics.
- Prepare technical reports detailing inspections, maintenance activities, and project progress.
- Investigate infrastructure failures and road incidents to determine root causes.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions based on technical findings.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with Qatar's road infrastructure regulations.
- Monitor adherence to occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Promote safe work practices during maintenance and operational activities.
- Support regulatory audits and technical inspections when required.
Cost & Resource Management
- Assist in planning maintenance budgets and resource allocation.
- Monitor maintenance expenditures while maintaining service quality.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
- Proven experience in road operations, road maintenance, highway engineering, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience coordinating maintenance contractors and field operations.
- Exposure to pavement management and infrastructure asset maintenance.
- Previous experience working on road infrastructure projects in Qatar or the GCC is advantageous.
